The maven:3-eclipse-temurin-21 container doesn't have Node.js, so actions/checkout@v4 fails with 'exec: node: not found'.

Replaced with a manual git checkout using:

  • git init + git remote add + git fetch --depth=1 + git checkout FETCH_HEAD
  • Uses the built-in GITHUB_TOKEN for authentication
  • Much lighter dependency: only needs git (which the maven image has)

This is the last blocker after fixing the Docker socket permission issue.

Using git init + fetch + checkout with the built-in GITHUB_TOKEN
instead. This avoids needing Node.js or a separate checkout action.
